Happy National Court Reporting Week!

\n\nThe third annual National Court Reporting & Captioning Week kicks off this week (Feb. 15 – 21). For those of you who are not familiar with this special occasion, it is a time to recognize the important role court reporters and captioners play in our society, as well as showcase the growing career opportunities that exist in the field today.\n\nThe concept behind National Court Reporting & Captioning Week was initiated by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA). They saw a need to bring awareness to the profession and showcase its vast array of professional opportunities. From serving as a court reporter to taking depositions during a meeting to bettering the lives of millions of Americans who are deaf and hard of hearing by using broadcasting and CART captioning, stenography touches millions of people in some way, shape or form. The awareness week attempts to rally together a nationwide celebration and encourage more citizens to recognize the important role court reporters and captioners play in the court room and beyond. \n\nAs part of this year’s celebration, NCRA has sponsored a variety of resources and events designed to help increase public awareness. Throughout the week, expect to see a variety campaigns on their website highlighting career opportunities available to those who graduate from a certified court reporting program. The Take Note site is also contributing to the cause by providing a wealth of information to parents and school counselors about court reporter training and career opportunities.\n \nCourt reporters, captioners, firms, state associations and court reporting schools across the country will also be participating in the week-long celebration. Some examples of the upcoming events include a luncheon featuring NCRA President Sarah Nageotte, hosted by the Hawaii Court Reporters and Captioners Association, and a meet-and-greet hosted by the New York State Court Reporters Association. You can find out more about events taking place in your area at the NCRA’s Court Reporting & Captioning Week page or at crTakeNote.com. You’ll also find materials to help you contribute to this year’s awareness week, such as press release templates, social media logos and banners, tips for hosting your own event and much more. \n\n
